 Weekday and Westchester Sketchers

At New York Public Library

For New Yorker Exhibit

blue background with two back-to-back bust figures above text that reads "A Century of The New Yorker" exhibition title

Join us this week as two sketch groups come together to celebrate two iconic New York institutions: the New York Public Library and New Yorker magazine.

Whether you are a subscriber or not....you know it!  You know the covers, the cartoons and the ubiquitous signature shopping bags carried by so many New Yorkers.  Drawing (unintended pun!) from its extensive archive of New Yorker covers and augmented by the magazine's resources, this exhibit is a deep dive into the development of this unique publication and the impact it has had on New York and the nation for 100 years.

For information about the exhibit, click here: https://www.nypl.org/events/exhibitions/new-yorker-100

Not feeling literary, then head into the Treasures Exhibit to see and sketch the collection of artifacts and documents dating back to the beginning of the city and civilization. Take a look at inventions and toys, maps and memorabilia that will spark you own imagination. (How about the original teddy bears and Winnie the Poohs)

Or try to capture the grander of the building itself.  with its beautiful arched corridors, grand reading rooms and elegant staircases.  No matter what you select, you're sure to have a wonderful time.

Smoke in Our Hair: Narrative Memory and Unsettled Time

This exhibit explores the nuanced layers of the past, present, and future within contemporary art by Native American, Alaska Native, First Nations, and Métis artists. Tapping personal memory, ancestral artistic practices, history, and Indigenous Futurism, their works center intentionality, design, and materiality.

Alvin C. Hollingsworth:And All That Jazz
