Pete's tablecloth sketches

After a late start, we began rolling in to Pete's tavern for an afternoon of sketching. As the morning turned to afternoon the sketches migrated from our sketchbooks to the tablecloths. Luckily, the tables were covered with paper, the perfect sketching media.

Pete's Tavern - 02-23-13

It was a cold rainy Saturday, and Peter's Tavern was the
perfect inviting place to meet.

Marie and Lance got busy sketching the Tavern
and I got busy drawing them.

Good food and drinks
Interesting conversation
and almost continuous sketching.
What could be better?

Luis spent time sketching at the bar.
When he returned to our table
I did this sketch.

A couple at the next table.

The Tavern had paper table clothes and it wasn't too long
before we were sketching on the table.

The Brooklyn Flea ... 02-16-13

During the winter months, Brooklyn Flea antique and vintage marketplace,
is held inside the landmark Williamsburgh Savings Bank,
Although it has a beautiful interior, that would make you think more of church
than a bank - it's sketching people that always attracts me.

This couple sat opposite me in the crowded cafeteria.
She looked so sharp and he looked like he'd had a long hard night.

We chatted with a mother and daughter.
Mom was in from Ohio for a long weekend
and the flea market seemed like a perfect place
to be on a cold overcast February day.

Hassan had a great waxed mustache and dressed
with a lot of flair.
One of the sketchers mentioned that there
is a beard and mustache contest in NY.
Got to check that out!

This mother an child were part of Hassan's group.
There was a second daughter  but they left
before I had a chance to sketch her

Brooklyn Flea

We had a great time sketching at the Brooklyn Flea Market (winter version) on Saturday.  We didn't find any fleas, but did view an eclectic (or curated) collection of  artifacts, clothes, prints and food.

The food lines were long.  I used my stipula passaporte w/ catfish blue noodlers ink

Thanks to Marie for suggesting liquid graphite
Just liquid graphite

Graphite and lexington grey ink

Saturday Sketch Date: Banks and Fleas!

All:
We're back on track and ready to sketch. As some of you have suggested, in additon to the weekly notification we'll provide a look-ahead so you can plan.
This week we're at Brooklyn's Winter Flea Market at the old Williamsburg Savings Bank Building. The building basement (with vault), first floor and mezzanine are stunning (to look at and sketch).
In addition, the scene with locals, hipsters, vendors and wanderers is fantastic.
The place gets packed so we'll start early (10:00) and meet back at the lobby every hour or so to regroup, recap and return.

More from the Morgan Library ... 02-02-13

On a cold February day it was great to be inside the Morgan Library sketching the art lovers

The only problem sketching art lovers is that they don't stand still

The doodle on the upper left was already on the page before the sketch

Quick Sketch of Marie who joined us for the first time.

Woman wearing a great hat was sitting across from us in the cafeteria.
She stared for awhile trying to figure out why I was looking at her.

Luis also joined us for the first time.  He has the coolest glasses.

Sur-really?

This week we were at the Morgan Library, specifically to see the Surrealists (really). As is the case on all our excursions, things got very interesting. We were joined by 2 new sketchers, Luis and Marie. It was a great morning and afternoon and the surreal really wasn't all that odd.

Drawing a drawing is interesting...
