From a Portland sketcher

I got this email from Linda Daily that I wanted to share:

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

Hi Mark,
Thanks to you and your fellow NYC sketchers for making me feel so welcome!
I wish I could have spent the day but my husband is patient up to a point!
The gardens were beautiful and a highlight of my visit.
It is so delightful to connect with Urban Sketchers in other cities.

The Sargent show was exceptional. So exciting to see his brush strokes up close.
We also loved the exhibit of the African artist.Wow.All made from bits of bottle caps, etc.
Amazing work.

Home to Portland this afternoon where it is much warmer! Our visit was great though bit chilly!

I am learning to use a new iPad so hope this photo sends.
Again,many thanks!

Aren't we sketchers a great group of people?

The Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Such a beautiful location for sketching, which we shared with thousands of others, all there for the cherry blossoms! As usual, great company and conversation. The museum shows after were icing on the cake. A perfect day!

Sunday, April 21, 2013

Here are my sketches from the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.
The Japanese Pond was a great spot...

but very crowded

The stairs with the flowering trees looked interesting...

and the fountain and greenhouse too.

Here are some photos of the day.
Sharing sketches and ideas is always fun.

Here are Kerry, Richard Susan, and a visitor from Seattle.

Mark was busy working.

Christine, Mark and Susan sharing.

Some sketchers worked through lunch.

Christine, Jason and Susan sketching.

Lauren working with some interested young artists.

It was great to see the exhibits at the Brooklyn Museum too.

Cherry Blossom Time at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens 04-20-13

We met at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in time for Cherry Blossom season.  In the afternoon we went to the Brooklyn Museum which is next door to see the John Singer Sargent Watercolor exhibit.

The Fountain at the Lilly Pool Terrace

Because the Gardens were so crowded, there was a tremendous amount of
 interaction between the
people passing by and the sketchers.
Lauren struck up a conversation with one of the kids
and was soon swarmed by children.
She shared her art supplies with them - new Urban Sketching recruits.

WWSC 39 NYC A great day to sketch

A big thanks needs to go out to the folks at Lincoln Center, The security personnel warned us of the drenching splashes that were about to burst, the cafeteria crew let us occupy tables and chairs to sketch and display our work and everyone was particularly helpful, curious and supportive. Thanks Lincoln Center!

Starting the day at Bethesda Fountain...a popular photo op spot.

At the fountain people sit, check their phones, talk and look around

The detail in the stonework, designed by Calvert Vaux, is fantastic.
Luch...burritos, sketches and chips..

World Wide Sketch Crawl 39- New York City

We had an amazing turnout today for the sketch crawl. NYC Urban Sketchers and the New York Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects joined forces to celebrate sketching and landscape architecture month.

It was great to see seasoned sketchers and so many newcomers! Sketch posts will follow, but for now some photos!
