November 5, 2023 Weekday sketchers at Bard Graduate Center

Weekday Sketchers at Bard Graduate Center

A trio of white porcelain sculptures of three women. The central figure stands with flowing garments and raised arms, holding a billowing cloth above her head. The two flanking figures mirror her gestures with their arms raised gracefully. The background is dark.

The Bard Graduate Center offers graduate studies in the decorative arts.  Included in their multi-faceted offerings is an excellent gallery and exhibit space.  Join us this week as we explore the current exhibition: Sevters Extradordinaire! Sculpture from 1740 to Today.

The Sevres studio in France has been producing porcelain sculptures and serving pieces for centuries.  This exhibit will showcase these items through time and changing technologies.

For background information about the exhibit,  up close examination and production videos of this studio, click here; https://exhibitions.bgc.bard.edu/sevres/

A sculpture resembling a red and gold bowl sits on a two-tiered stand. The stand has a dark purple top and base with a white cylindrical center. The bowl is centered on the top surface.
