Saturday 3/14/26: Weekend Sketchers at The Oculus and Gansevoort Liberty Market

The Oculus in NYC is an architectural landmark, transit hub, and shopping mall. Designed by famed Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the $4 billion building makes this the most expensive train stop in the world. Gansevoort Market, located in the shopping mall part of The Oculus, hosts 10 different vendors that range from Japanese comfort food to Neapolitan personal pizzas. I think this will give us good options to sketch both a stunning landmark and a comfortable food hall… and still hoping it will start to warm up and we can sneak outside.

**Please note that this is a venue change from what was previously listed on the events calendar. The Oculus will be the weekend sketchers’ location, NOT The NY Historical.

HOST: Mel Barancco (203) 550-3666

DATE: Saturday 3/14/26

TIME: Sketching 10am - 3pm | Show and Tell beginning at 3pm.

SKETCHING LOCATION: The official address is 187 Greenwich St, NY, NY

MEETING LOCATION/ SHOW AND TELL LOCATION:  There will be no official meeting to kick off the day, but let’s use Gansevoort Liberty Market as our home base as there is more seating in there. People can jump off from there to sketch the atrium of the Oculus, which can get very crowded on the weekends and has limited seating. Let’s plan on doing the Show and Tell in the atrium at 3:00 (Level C2, in front of the Apple Store), if crowds allow, but check with the host day-of to confirm the exact location. If you are new, look for people with sketchbooks and say hello, we are a friendly bunch.

FOOD, DRINK, RESTROOMS, SEATING: Yes to all. Bring a stool if you want to sketch in the atrium of the Oculus. There is some seating on the main floor (C2), but they get taken up.

ABOUT NYC URBAN SKETCHING EVENTS: All are welcome, no fee, no registration. Just look for folks with sketchbooks and say hello. If you have trouble finding us, contact the host; their contact info is in the NYC Urban Sketchers blog post for this event.  #nycurbansketchers.
