Saturday 8/8/26: Weekend Sketchers at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine

We had a great time sketching St. John the Divine indoors in the winter, why not sketch this magnificent location from the outside? The world’s largest Gothic Cathedral sits on a historic, 11-acre campus and features serene gardens, a 40-foot monumental sculpture/fountain, intricate stone carvings, and wandering peacocks (this is unverified, but let’s hope it’s true!).

***Please note that this is a change of venue from what was previously listed in the Calendar of Events. Right now Saturday has a chance of rain later in the afternoon, but it’s also supposed to be very hot. This location gives us great indoor and outdoor options in case it rains, or people need a break from the heat. The originally scheduled Elizabeth Street Gardens, a crowd favorite, doesn’t really have an indoor option and will be rescheduled for a nicer day.

If you want/need to go indoors, admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students. Once you check in at the desk and receive your sticker you can come and go as you please throughout the day. You do not need timed tickets.

HOST: Leslie Sim: 516-633-2340
DATE: Saturday 8/8/26
TIME: Sketching 10am-3pm | Show and Tell beginning at 3pm.
SKETCHING LOCATION: 1047 Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street, NY, NY

MEETING SPOT: There will be no official meeting to kick off the day, join your fellow sketchers and just start sketching.
SHOW AND TELL LOCATION: Ideally in the garden by the fountain. If it is raining, the St. James chapel inside the Cathedral worked well last time. Check with the host day-of for the exact show-and-tell location.
FOOD, DRINK, RESTROOMS, SEATING: There are restrooms in the cathedral and plenty of food options in the neighborhood. A stool gives you more options.
