SATURDAY: Sketch the Last Knight

Every time I see Tim Bay sketching he asks me if I've seen the special Armor Show at the Met yet.  I have to admit, the description sounds interesting.  The show closes on January 5th, so this is the time to check it out.

The Last Knight: The Art, Armor, and Ambition of Maximilian I examines the profound significance of European armor at the dawn of the Renaissance, through the lens of Emperor Maximilian I's (1459–1519) remarkable life. On view only at The Met, The Last Knight coincides
with the five-hundredth anniversary of Maximilian's death, and is the most ambitious North American loan exhibition of European arms and armor in decades. Including 180 objects selected from some thirty public and private collections in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, The Last Knight will explore how Maximilian's unparalleled passion for the trappings and ideals of knighthood served his boundless worldly ambitions, imaginative stratagems, and resolute efforts to forge a lasting personal and family legacy.

This exhibition features many works of art on view outside Europe for the first time, including Maximilian's own sumptuous armors that highlight his patronage of the greatest European armorers of his age, as well as related manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, glass, tapestry, and toys, all of which emphasize the emperor's dynastic ambitions and the centrality of chivalry at the imperial court and beyond.

WHEN: This Saturday, November 30, 2019, starting at 10:00 AM.

WHERE: The Met Fifth Avenue, 1000 Fifth Avenue, in Gallery 899
-    I use the side entrance on 81st Street.  It says it's for school groups but anyone can use it.
-    Meet at the information desk in the Great Hall
-    Note:  During heavy traffic and for certain shows the museum sometimes doesn't permit long term sketching.  (see next item)
-    If knights in shining armor isn't your thing, or if we're not permitted to sketch this particular show - sketch anywhere - there is so much to see and draw.  We'll meet for lunch and Show & Tell

HOW:
-    New Yorkers. - Pay what you wish
-    Out of towners - Adults - $25, Seniors (65 and over) - $17, Students -$12

LUNCH:  12:00  Noon - Meet at the very back of the museum cafeteria located on the ground floor near the Lehman Collection.  Bring your own or purchase from the museum.

AFTERNOON:  1 PM - Back to sketching the museum

SHOW and TELL:  3 PM.  Back to the back of the cafeteria -  our lunch spot, where we will share our day's drawings and tell art stories.

NOTES:
-  Bring a stool if you own one. It gives you so many more options.
