New Jersey Sketchers at Military Park Newark
Wars of America Monument |
Join us for a day rich with history past and present. Military Park was once called Middle Commons when it was founded in 1666 and used as a training ground for the troops fighting the French and Indian War. Later Washington used the area for the Revolutionary Army. Today it is a green oasis in the middle of a busy city. Join us to explore the large monument, the carousel and the picturesque Trinity Church. Nearby sites of the NJ PAC and Peddie Baptist Church are good sketch subjects as well.
Fun Fact: Gutzon Borglum, Sculptor of Wars of American Monument with its 42 figures, is most famous as the sculptor of Mount Rushmore.
