Often called the Jewel of Rye, the Rye Free Reading Room is a public library in Rye, New York, located in a 1913 stately brick Georgian building on the Village Green.
A bit of history - this library began as the dream of a few concerned citizens in 1884. They founded a constitution for a new library organization, primarily as a place for young men as an escape from the undesirable effect of saloons. Fast forward to 2026 - the library welcomes us to come sketch their beautiful interior, bookcases, wood ceilings and an elegant staircase. And while you are at it, take out a good book with which to curl up at home.
