Now in its 36th year, what began in Manhattan’s first dog run has grown into what many celebrate as the world’s largest dog parade. The event includes a dog parade, a high stakes costume contest, and a block party! The parade starts at 11am on the corner of 13th St and Ave B, and travels down Ave B to E 7th St. You are encouraged to find a spot by 10:00/10:30 if you want a good view, especially if you are bringing a stool. There will be barricades so I suggest you view from the west side of the street to leave early for show and tell, as it may be difficult to cross the barricades.
The block party will take place on 6th Street between Avenue B and C from 10am-4pm and will feature treats, photo opportunities, and surprises!
If the Dog Parade isn’t for you, sketch the park!! Tompkins Square Park is a historically significant urban park spanning over ten acres. It features open green spaces, walking paths, a variety of recreational facilities, playgrounds, and historical monuments, making it a vibrant community hub.
