A spectacular 28-acre public garden and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades in the Bronx, Wave Hill's vibrant landscape is one of the most beautiful spots in New York City.

William Morris build his country house on the site of present day Wave Hill in 1843. Over the years occupants and visitors have included Charles Darwin, Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain and Arturo Toscanini. Riverdale’s 249th Street features grandiose private homes. The affluent neighborhood was home to Johh F. Kennedy for four years while he attended the Riverdale Country School around the corner from Wave Hill

Wave Hill Details

Where: West 249th Street and Independence Avenue (main entrance)

When: 10 AM to 3:30 PM, Running late? Join us anyway

How: There’s an $8 entrance fee, but Target Stores sponsors free admission if you arrive between 9 AM to Noon. Is that an inducement to set the alarm on Saturday?

There is no direct way to get to the Gardens using public transportation. It requires a combination subway and bus. Please visit the website for detailed directions:

Subway:

Take the #1 train to the terminus of the line at West 242nd Street. A free Wave Hill shuttle van meets passengers on the west side of Broadway in front of Burger King at 10 minutes past the hour, from 9:10am to 3:10pm. The shuttle van returns visitors to Broadway in front of Burger King, departing Wave Hill’s front gate on the hour, from noon until 5pm.

You may also take the A train to West 207th Street; transfer there to the Bx7 or Bx20 bus northbound to West 252nd Street. Wave Hill is a pleasant five-minute walk down West 252nd Street from the Henry Hudson Parkway/252nd Street bus stop.
