Join us for a day of sketching at the Newark Museum.So many exhibits and the newly reopened Ballantine galleries will keep us busy.

A few highlights:

The Ballantine House

The Ballantine House is a wing of the Museum complex and has just been renovated and reopened. Step back in time into reimagined galleries, new multi-sensory activities, and enlivened historical rooms that reveal unseen stories of Newark. Learn about the city’s industries, its diverse communities, and the people who made life in the house possible. Link below for a virtual walk through of the beautiful rooms.

Innovators in Southwestern Jewelry

Contemporary Native American jewelry artists of the Southwest build upon centuries-long traditions of stonework and silversmithing—knowledge that is often passed on within families.

Unexpected Color: A Journey Through Glass  featuring the Thomas N. Armstrong III Collection of Steuben Glass.

This long-term installation showcases the collection of museum director Thomas N. Armstrong III. Discover how Carder experimented with glassblowing techniques to create vibrant jewel-toned colors, and follow that glass through multiple settings that Armstrong collected and used it in his homes. Carder’s designs were inspired by ancient Roman, Chinese, and Art Nouveau glass.

  • There is an admission fee of $10 for adults and $8 for Seniors.  Membership in American Alliance of Museums is accepted as well as other memberships ( Chanel 13).  Check the web site for more information.  https://newarkmuseumart.org/visit/plan-your-visit/#admission

  • Bathrooms and water are available. Limited food service is available

  • Backpacks are not allowed in the gallery. Plan on using a small kit of materials

  • Plan to use dry materials 

  • Parking is available next to the Museum for a $10 fee, with entrances located on Washington Street and Central Avenue. Payment is through Pay by App and Text to Pay. Follow payment instructions displayed on-site. Cash payment is not available.

  • By Train
 You may take NJ Transit trains to either Newark Penn Station or Broad Street Station.
PATH trains go to Newark Penn Station. From Newark Penn Station – The Newark Light Rail connects Penn Station to the Broad Street Station.

There are two options for taking the Light Rail to the Museum from Newark Penn Station:
1) Take the Grove St bound Light Rail to the Washington Street Stop. Exit to your left and start walking on Washington St towards Warren St. The Museum is located 5 blocks down at the Central & Washington Street intersection.
(or)
2) Take the Broad St bound Light Rail to the Atlantic Street Stop. Exit to your right. Walk past the parking garage on your left toward Lombardy Street. Make a right onto Lombardy Street. Walk toward Broad Street and cross over to Washington Park. The Museum is located across the Park on Washington Street.


There are no fees to participate in Urban Sketchers Programs. 
All drawing skill levels are welcome.
