3/6/2026 NJ Sketchers at Newark Sacred Spaces

On Friday, March 6 the NJ Sketchers will visit not one, but two sacred spots in Newark.

First we will meet at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart at 10:30 AM.
The address is 89 Ridge Street, Newark, NJ 07104.
This majestic building is in the French Gothic style and took more than fifty years to construct.  There are hundreds of spots to sit, and many beautiful things to sketch. Plan on working in dry materials.
Parking is free and on Ridge Street.  There is a bathroom.  Please try to arrive 5 or 10 minutes early so we can sign in together at the Rectory.

At 12:30 we will wrap up at the Basilica with a throwdown and group photo and head over to Ahavas Sholom, 145 Broadway, Newark, NJ 07104 which is  7 minutes by car.  Ahavas Sholom has the honor of housing the oldest ark in the state of New Jersey, originally a part of a congregation in New York City in the 19th century.
Mr. Freedman will unlock the parking lot for us at 1:00 pm.  The synagogue is directly across the street from a big blue sign that says "Lion's Face Church."   We will be allowed to eat in a spot in the basement before we go upstairs to sketch the ark.  We can work here until 3:00 pm.

As is customary, both sacred places gratefully accept donations.
