Saturday 2/28: Weekend Sketchers at Sotheby’s

In November of last year Sotheby’s opened its New York headquarters in an architectural masterpiece, the building Marcel Breuer designed in the 1960s for the Whitney Museum—now meticulously restored by Herzog & de Meuron, one of my favorite architecture firms.

Sotheby’s lists works by Willem de Kooning, Yayoi Kusama, George Condo, Lucio Fontana, Yoshioto Nara, Julie Hart Beers, and many others as being currently on view.

HOST: Sonia Idelsohn (914) 522-6584

DATE: Saturday 2/28/26

TIME: Sketching 10:30am - 3pm | Show and Tell beginning at 3pm.

LOCATION: Sotheby’s, 945 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10021

MEETING LOCATION:  Meet the host in the lobby. If you are new, look for people with sketchbooks and say hello, we are a friendly bunch.

SHOW AND TELL LOCATION: To be determined, but let’s use the building lobby as our default meeting spot at 3:00 sharp in case we need to relocate. Check with the host day-of for the exact show-and-tell location.

VENUE RULES: As this is not a museum, the website doesn’t list rules for visitors. We spoke to them and it is ok to sketch in the galleries, but let’s tread lightly at first and ease into it, especially with stools, easels, and/or overt water-based media. As always, please listen to the staff, we want to be welcomed back with open arms.

FOOD, DRINK, RESTROOMS: There are restrooms in the building. Food is available in the neighborhood.

ABOUT NYC URBAN SKETCHING EVENTS: All are welcome, no fee, no registration. Just look for folks with sketchbooks and say hello. If you have trouble finding us, contact the host, their contact info is in the NYC Urban Sketchers blog post for this event.  #nycurbansketchers.
