South Presbyterian Church

Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Please join us as we visit historic South Presbyterian Church and graveyard in Bergenfield, NJ.
This stone church dates back 300 years, and many of the markers in the cemetery belong to local historic figures
with last names such as Demarest, Blauvelt, and Westervelt.  There is much to sketch here, including Cooper's Pond to the east
and the Bergenfield red barn museum.

Pastor Gelson said that when we arrive at 11:30, we may hear the choir rehearsing.
There are picnic tables in Cooper's Pond, so bring a snack or lunch.  Bring a camp stool, and sturdy shoes if you plan to walk
around the cemetary.
The host for this event is Julia:  jazaz7658@gmail.com or 551-206-1273,

Saturday 10/17/26: Weekend Sketchers at the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade

Now in its 36th year, what began in Manhattan’s first dog run has grown into what many celebrate as the world’s largest dog parade. The event includes a dog parade, a high stakes costume contest, and a block party! The parade starts at 11am on the corner of 13th St and Ave B, and travels down Ave B to E 7th St. You are encouraged to find a spot by 10:00/10:30 if you want a good view, especially if you are bringing a stool. There will be barricades so I suggest you view from the west side of the street to leave early for show and tell, as it may be difficult to cross the barricades.

The block party will take place on 6th Street between Avenue B and C from 10am-4pm and will feature treats, photo opportunities, and surprises!

If the Dog Parade isn’t for you, sketch the park!! Tompkins Square Park is a historically significant urban park spanning over ten acres. It features open green spaces, walking paths, a variety of recreational facilities, playgrounds, and historical monuments, making it a vibrant community hub.

Saturday 10/10/26: Weekend Sketchers at The Intrepid as viewed from Pier 84

Situated one pier south of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Pier 84 stretches almost 1,000 feet into the River and measures nearly 100,000 square feet, making it one of the largest piers on the Manhattan waterfront. This spot offers incredible views of The Intrepid. If a WWII decommissioned aircraft carrier is not your cup of tea, there is a kayak boathouse, kayakers, a dog run, a pretty cool fountain, a community garden, the Circle Line boats (to the south), and sweeping views of Manhattan and New Jersey!

Please note: our sketching location is on Pier 84- which is one pier south of the Intrepid. Of course you are welcome to go to the Intrepid and just meet us for show and tell at 3pm, but our home base will be Pier 84. The Intrepid has a not-inexpensive entrance fee, gets very crowded with tourists on Saturday, and has very tight quarters, which may not be for everyone. We will be sketching from the comfort of the free park next door, with incredible views… and the weather looks great right now!

HOST: Theresa Michna and Susan Horowitz
DATE: Saturday 10/10/26
TIME: Sketching 10am-3pm | Show and Tell beginning at 3pm.
SKETCHING LOCATION: Pier 84- Which is on the West Side Highway at 44th Street. This is one pier south of the Intrepid.

MEETING SPOT: There will be no official meeting to kick off the day, join your fellow sketchers and just start sketching.
SHOW AND TELL LOCATION: At 3pm meet on the grassy knoll adjacent to the Kayak Boathouse. Check with the host day-of for the exact show-and-tell location.
FOOD, DRINK, RESTROOMS, SEATING: There are restrooms on the pier, lots of benches, and even some tables and chairs. A stool gives you more options, especially if you want to sit in the shade. Food options seem limited and overpriced with bad reviews.

About NYC Urban Sketchers Events: All are welcome–no fee, no registration. Just look for folks with sketchbooks at the meeting spot and say hello. If you have trouble finding us, contact the host; their contact info is in the NYC Urban Sketchers blog post for this event. #nycurbansketchers.
