Arboretum Sketches

I have been doing Marc Taro Holmes' new class online. The lesson I just finished watching was on making a themed page of sketches that tell a story. I did this today at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Oakdale. In addition to some amazing trees and plants they have garden area where food is grown for local programs that feed the needy. I decided to focus on that area today.

In the upper left corner is a sketch of the barn on the property. It looks pretty good from anywhere you sit so I found some shade and went to work. The sunflowers were well past their prime but I find them interesting even when they are drying up and bowing down. I next found some tomatoes that still hadn't turned red. The chickens were fun to sketch. They are very busy pecking at anything they can eat so they move around quite a bit. I think I managed to tell a bit of a story...don't you?
