Heard: Seen in NY

Drawings could hardly do this installation and performance justice, but just the same, it was a visual feast for sketchers, photographers, dancers, musicians and really, any passerby this past week in Grand Central Station NY. Nick Cave, brilliant, evocative artist and fashion designer mounted this exquisite installation. The night before I drew, I was able to attend a lecture at the Met, hearing him speak about The Herd. This most certainly added an extra element to this experience for me. The raffia that the horses were draped in provided the most extraordinary element to the dance- it was like hearing the waves of an undulating ocean- to me. That is what is so amazing about this, and what we do- the interpretation belongs to us! It was great fun drawing with our NYC Urban Sketchers group- I saw some old friends, and made some new ones, too! A big shout out to Mark Leibowitz who organized  and well, herded us there!
