SATURDAY: Sketch The Gardens at St. Luke in the Fields

Lauded in the village as the “secret” garden, the Gardens at St. Luke is a little known oasis to escape the city. High brick walls run the perimeter of the garden, creating a perfect retreat to read and smell the flowers and sketch.

The gardens’ southwest orientation and heat-retaining brick walls create a warm micro-climate, allowing a wide variety of flora and fauna to thrive. This green space, with its abundance of berries and flowers, provides a small but important way-station for migrating birds and butterflies during the spring and fall seasons. Over 100 species of birds and 24 types of moths and butterflies have been recorded.

The Garden has asked all visitors to be masked.  The garden doesn’t open until noon on Saturday which is the reason we’re starting late.

DETAILS

What:   We’ll be sketching in the Gardens at St. Luke in the Fields

Where:   487 Hudson St, between Christopher and Grove St.

When:  Start time - Noon.   The Gardens open at 12:00 PM.  Saturday, July 16, 2022

How:

-   By Subway:  

• 1, 2 train - To either Christopher or Houston St (Christopher is the closest stop)

• A, C, E, B, D, F, OR M train to West 4th Street 

• A, C, E train to 14th Street

• 1, 2., 3 train to 14th Street. 

     (see map below).

Lunch:  You are permitted to bring food to the garden.

Show and Tell:  3:00 PM - We’ll find a likely spot in the garden to share our work, tell stories and talk about what artists talk about.

NOTE:

-     Bring a hat.    

-     Bring a stool if you have one, it gives you more options.
